Overview

Drew serves as Chair of Shoreline’s litigation department. He has 40 years of litigation experience in diverse real estate, banking, business, unfair competition, class action, partnership, entertainment, employment, and insolvency disputes. He has successfully tried and arbitrated numerous cases and mediated or resolved countless others. Drew’s clients have also spanned the gamut from top tier public companies to individuals faced with problems in need of an insightful and creative approach to dispute solutions and is known for a no nonsense approach to efficient and effective guidance for his clients. Drew also firmly believes in giving back to the culture and community that surrounds his life through his commitment of time to non-profit organizations and bar activities. Drew recently completed a 42-hour mediator training program with a view toward a mediation practice.

  • Successfully Represented a Fortune 50 retailer in trial and appellate courts to overturn injunction and allow completion of construction of large store
  • Defeated school district’s attempt to invalidate deed restrictions in place for over 85 years in a quiet title trial for an association representing over 4000+ property owners
  • Represented major retailer in action to force supplier to honor requirements contract and secured favorable settlement
  • Representation of high profile entertainment industry client in employee wrongful termination arbitration
  • Representation of international automotive manufacturer in consumer class action brought under California’s Unfair Competition Law
  • Represented entertainment conglomerate in complex contract and fraud-based dispute against start-up motion picture company and its various principals and affiliates concerning the sale of various film projects – resulted in multi-million dollar settlement secured by film projects with additional complex enforcement mechanisms in favor of client
  • Represented large regional land developer’s interests in a bankruptcy proceeding filed by resort hotel that had defaulted on client’s secured loan – resulted in successful settlement deal approved by bankruptcy court under which client gained control of the resort hotel asset
  • Successfully extricated major film industry executive from dispute over art work
  • Represented entertainment management firm in action against screenwriter regarding his failure to pay client  ten percent of gross earnings on blockbuster film – obtained summary judgment in favor of client and defeated screenwriter’s various defenses, including arguments under the Talent Agencies Act
  • Obtained large judgment through settlement, arbitration, and ultimately court proceedings in clients’ favor in dispute with family member
  • Represented purchasers of multi-million dollar Beverly Hills home in litigation against home developer for non-disclosure and fraud arising from defective conditions in home – obtained settlement before trial for over $2.5 million
  • Represented many large institutional lenders in various actions involving breaches of secured loans, including obtaining receivers for subject property pending foreclosures, obtaining relief from bankruptcy stays where debtor has filed bankruptcy, and securing writs of attachment against loan guarantors – representation has been in both state and federal courts throughout California
  • Secured summary judgment rejecting multi-million dollar monopolization claim under the Sherman Act against Las Vegas hotel and successfully defended appeal of that judgment before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
  • Obtained judgment following trial, denying bankruptcy discharge to debtor arising from multi-million dollar dispute with client
  • Secured judgment quieting title to commercial real property in favor of client
  • Procured judgment following hearings, rejecting employment-based claims of former employee against client
  • Favorable settlements and dismissals of a variety of clients from cases involving real property, commercial, employment, and other issues
  • Favorable outcomes for numerous clients in mediation and arbitration proceedings
  • Obtained judgment at trial on behalf of a large commercial tenant operating fast-casual restaurants that was sued by its landlord for breach of a properly terminated lease
  • Obtained a very favorable arbitration award on behalf of a set of partners seeking to be bought out of their partnership interests by the remaining partners and where both sides submitted drastically different appraisal valuations
  • Defeated a landlord`s petition to compel arbitration of rental rates during an option period against a large commercial tenant operating a nationwide steakhouse chain, effectively ending the litigation, and thereafter securing a stipulation whereby the landlord agreed to pay the tenant`s attorneys` fees and costs.
